The Central Bank of Russia revoked the license of the Corporate Finance Bank

22.11.2024

The Central Bank of Russia revoked the license of the Corporate Finance Bank.

The Central Bank of Russia has revoked the license of the Bank of Corporate Finance (BCF), which ranked 230th in the domestic banking system. The regulator pointed to the violation of federal laws regulating financial activities. The reasons were the bank's poor asset quality, inefficient business model and chronic losses. It also found out that the bank was involved in suspicious transactions related to the withdrawal of funds outside the country and laundering of proceeds of crime.

In the last year, BCF has been repeatedly penalized by the Central Bank, including two restrictions on attracting depositors' funds. The situation with the bank's reputation raised questions from both the regulator and experts, which eventually led to the revocation of the license.

BCF became the fifth bank to lose its license in 2024. In the current environment, quite a few credit institutions also face the risk of closure despite the absence of direct violations. Experts believe that it will be extremely difficult for some small players to survive in the current financial realities.

Against the background of tightened banking supervision and general decrease in competitiveness of small banks, it is obvious that their chances of attracting funds from the population have significantly decreased. This is due to the increase in deposit rates of large players, which makes it difficult for small banks to offer competitive terms.

The revocation of the license of the Bank for Corporate Finance (BCF) could have a number of serious consequences for the bank itself and for the broader Russian banking system as a whole. First, the decision signals the Central Bank's tough stance towards financial institutions that fail to comply with legal regulations. This will set a precedent for further inspections and possible license revocations of other banks, especially among smaller players who may find themselves in a similar situation.

Secondly, BCF customers now face risks. People who have deposits with this bank have lost access to their funds and the repayment process may be long and complicated. In this case, depositors should wait for payments from the Deposit Insurance Agency, which may not cover all their financial losses. This may cause deterioration of confidence in such banks and the overall banking system.

Third, consolidation of the banking sector may intensify. The revocation of BKF's license may become a catalyst for acquisitions and mergers among smaller banks as they seek to survive in the face of increasing competition from larger and more stable players.

Thus, the revocation of BCF's license becomes a landmark event, highlighting not only the problems of this bank, but also broader trends in the Russian banking system associated with a tough business environment and increasing regulatory scrutiny.
