A ban on foreign citizens holding positions in Russian companies from 2022.
The Council of the EU announced that citizens of the bloc are forbidden from December 16 to hold any positions in state bodies of the Russian Federation. The ban also applies to state-controlled Russian organizations and companies. The statement specifically focuses on the fact that we are talking about all positions in the management bodies of all state or state-controlled legal entities located on the territory of the Russian Federation. That is, a complete ban is introduced on the participation of EU citizens in the management bodies of Russian state-owned or government-affiliated companies.
This is part of the ninth package of sanctions, which was developed and adopted rather quickly. As part of the eighth package, which was adopted on October 6, 2022, a partial ban was introduced on the participation of EU citizens in Russian state-owned and state-controlled companies. Then it applied only to senior positions and only to a number of organizations, and provided for exceptions. Thus, Rosneft, Almaz-Antey, OPK Oboronprom, Gazprom Neft and a number of other organizations were listed in the list of companies banned.
Now the ban has become complete and without any exceptions, it is now forbidden for foreigners from the EU to hold any positions in state bodies and state corporations of Russia.
The main content of the eighth package of sanctions was the ceiling on oil prices. As for the ninth package that followed, personal sanctions were adopted against 149 Russian individuals (officials, parliamentarians, security officials, media people, as well as judges) and 49 organizations. Getting into such a "black" list means freezing assets in the European Union, if any, a ban on all travel to countries included in the bloc.
The assets of two Russian banks have been frozen as part of the tightening of personal sanctions, we are talking about MKB and the Far East Bank. It is prohibited to perform any transactions and operations with RRDB.
A ban on investment in Russian mining has also been introduced. It is forbidden to supply to Russia from the EU: spare parts and engines for drones, drones (even in the form of toys), laptops, laptops, computer components, cameras and lenses, complex generators, radio navigation and radio control equipment. Foreign companies are prohibited from providing advertising and marketing services to Russian firms and individuals.
