Investment company QBF. Financial pyramid under the guise of an investment company. Refund. Risks in the investment environment.
The police uncovered a financial pyramid under the guise of an investment company, Kommersant reports.
Managers offered to wealthy clients to transfer money to "trust management", and then withdraw funds abroad.
Law enforcement agencies assume that the QBF investment company is a regular financial pyramid scheme. The court arrested Zelimkhan Munaev, co-founder of QBF, and Evgenia Rossieva, the organization's lawyer. A criminal case has been initiated against them on the fact of fraud on an especially large scale.
Investors learned about the opportunity to invest in QBF, usually through word of mouth. The focus was on clients who, according to some reports, had access to budget funds. "Off the record," said QBF officials, who expected such investors not to go to law enforcement because they would be unable to prove the legitimacy of receiving the invested funds.
Dividends to clients were paid at the expense of subsequent depositors, which guaranteed the influx of new guaranteed investors. Managers constantly sent fictitious deposit reports to clients.
The problems started when the client was about to withdraw his money from QBF. There are several dozens of victims in the case, including citizens of Ukraine and companies from Liechtenstein. The damage caused by the investigation is estimated at about 2 billion rubles. The total amount of the company's debt can be from 5 to 7 billion rubles. Among the victims there are those who invested 200–300 million rubles each, and one client entrusted 1 billion rubles to scammers.
The QBF believes that they are trying to put pressure on them in order to obtain funds in a volume that the company has never had, a company representative said.
Elizaveta Razina, Senior Associate at Vetrov & Partners law firm, will comment on how there are chances for a refund and, in general, risks in the investment area.
Unfortunately, the level of investment and legal literacy in Russia leaves much to be desired. If you look at the amount of damage, which is measured in billions, it is sad and sad to remind you of the need to exercise reasonableness, caution, including in terms of risk diversification, the use of various control and verification tools for the counterparty, its persons, completed transactions and operations.
Naturally, the more different entities on the side of the investment company, the presence of foreign jurisdictions, foreign applicable law, the lack of assets, including nominees, zits-chairmen, or even the owners of this business, the less chance of a refund. There is little chance that a criminal case, bankruptcy or subsidiary liability will help. However, if there is a chance to save some part of the attracted investments, there is always a chance of their return to investors. The main thing is to be active in this matter.
