The number of crimes committed with the help of IT technologies has increased significantly. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, in 2019, almost 300,000 so-called IT-crimes were committed in the country, using various information technologies.
On this topic, "RBC" talked with an expert in information protection and information security, as well as a candidate of technical sciences and dean of the faculty of automation and computer technology at NSTU, with Ivan Reva.

The most common IT crime is the interception of information and databases, including phone numbers and personal data. All of these violations and malicious activities pose a danger to companies. A telephone number with a full name is protected by the Law on Personal Data. If the information has been betrayed in any way, its owner may legally demand the protection of his rights with compensation for material and moral damage. Also, companies in the banking sector often become victims of theft. Losses here are usually associated with the human factor. Leaks of information from internal channels due to the actions of employees, both employees and laid-offs. At the same time, the percentage of solved crimes in the field of information technology is very low. This is due to the difficulty of identifying criminals.
The development of technologies determines their penetration into all spheres of public life. This is used not only by conscientious users of communication networks, but also by criminals pursuing various illegal goals, including personal enrichment. Crimes related to the theft of funds from banks and other credit institutions, from individuals and legal entities, committed using modern information and communication technologies, including liability, depending on the method of theft, are provided for in Art. 158, 159, 159.3, 159.6 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
