New merger on the market: DSV will become the largest logistics company.

Danish company DSV has announced the acquisition of the logistics division of German rail giant Deutsche Bahn — Schenker AG. The deal will be partially financed by issuing new shares, as well as using debt resources. The final approval of the deal remains with regulators and the supervisory board of Deutsche Bahn. The completion of the transaction is expected in the second quarter of 2025.

After the merger, DSV will become the world leader in the logistics market, moving up from the third position it currently occupies, behind DHL and Kuehne + Nagel. Schenker, in turn, is in fourth place. The logistics market is extremely fragmented: the 20 largest companies account for only 40% of the market. DSV's share after the merger with Schenker is expected to increase to 6-7%. The annual revenue of the combined company will reach €39.3 billion, and the staff will be 147 thousand people working in more than 90 countries.

The idea of ​​selling Schenker was proposed by the German government in 2022, when it was decided that Deutsche Bahn would be better off focusing on domestic passenger and freight transport. The company agreed to sell Schenker that same year. Other potential buyers included major players such as the investment fund CVC and logistics companies Maersk and Bahri.
