Novosibirsk "Vector" demanded more than 11 million from the construction company because of a fire in the building of the center, RBC reports.
The Novosibirsk center of virology and biotechnology "Vector" filed a claim with the Arbitration Court against the construction company "Monolith", demanding to recover more than 11 million rubles from it. The developer was responsible for repairing the center’s premises, where a fire broke out in 2019.
“SMU Group 8” will take part in the consideration of the claim as a third party. The meeting is scheduled for April 26th.
It was previously established that in September 2019, a fire broke out in one of the buildings in the center during repair work due to the fault of the master of SMU 8 Group LLC. The man ignored safety requirements by not equipping the room with a movable fume hood. In preparation for painting work in the sanitary inspection room there was a strong bang and a bright flash, the finisher received severe burns - 45% of the body surface.
As a result of the incident, there was no damage to the supporting structures of the building, there was no threat to the population due to the leakage of biological objects. However, the research center suffered significant damage. In addition, one of the employees suffered serious bodily harm in the form of multiple burns. Investigators opened a criminal case for causing serious harm through negligence (part 1 of article 216 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

Arbitration disputes on compensation for damage caused by a fire are not the most popular category of cases, at least for the Novosibirsk Region. There are logical explanations that we have few fires themselves that would lead to damage.
Nevertheless, in the case under consideration, the desire of the Vector to compensate for the damage is understandable, especially if it was related to the improper performance by one of the contractors of its obligations under the contract. But whether it will be possible to do this promptly, and subsequently still get real enforcement of this judicial act, is a big question.
