The sphere of trade in children's goods is now one of the most vulnerable segments of retail. Problems began during the pandemic due to a decrease in the purchasing power of the population. Currently, toy suppliers are facing difficulties in delivering goods to Russia, the former supply chains have been broken due to sanctions.
From the information posted on the official website of the Moscow arbitration, it follows that the IFTS No. 21 of the capital applied for bankruptcy. So far, no other information has been provided in the court case card.
The database of court cases contains data on several dozen lawsuits brought against the company in 2022. Most of the proceedings are initiated in order to achieve the repayment of debts under lease agreements for premises. Also, some of the courts are associated with non-fulfillment of obligations under service agreements. The total amount of claims made is about 150 million rubles.
"Toy.ru" is a federal network of children's toy stores, officially owned by a private individual, Larisa Lobanova. But the business can be considered a family business, since for a long time the network worked only through one distributor - Saks LLC, the founder of which is Larisa Lobanova's husband, Andrey Lobanov. The past 2021 brought the company about 300 billion rubles in revenue, but the net loss amounted to 479 million.
The family-owned toy business started having problems back in 2020 amid restrictions and economic hardships caused by the pandemic. Then "Sachs" lost contracts with well-known manufacturers: Lego, Mattel, Harsbro, and the "Toy.ru" network was forced to close about half of its outlets. And at the end of 2019, the company received revenue of 5.5 billion rubles (net profit was about 145 million), secured by income from 150 outlets throughout Russia.
The pandemic has changed the structure of demand, and a criminal case initiated against the management of Saks Toys LLC for tax violations in the amount of 600 million rubles also caused great damage to the reputation and position of the company. The claims settlement is believed to have increased the financial burden on the business.
In 2022, many foreign companies left the market due to sanctions or by their own decision, there were problems with delivery and commodity loans, and competition between stores and marketplaces intensified.
