Due to the difficult political situation, a number of foreign companies announced the suspension or termination of work in Russia. At the same time, they still have assets and liabilities in the country to employees, partners and consumers. The authorities are now deciding what to do with the assets of these companies and how to respond to their refusal to work in Russia.

Secretary of the General Council of the United Russia party Andrey Turchak on March 7 announced the party's proposal to the Government to nationalize (that is, transfer to the state) the property, funds and enterprises of such companies. On March 9, the Government Commission on Legislative Activities approved in principle the possibility of considering this idea. Andrei Turchak called the actions of companies that left the Russian market a deliberate bankruptcy and a political decision. Therefore, according to him, the possibility of taking an extreme step - nationalization, in order to protect the Russians, will be considered.

The head of the organization "Public Consumer Initiative" Oleg Pavlov estimated the total volume of obligations of companies that left Russia at 6 trillion rubles. The organization compiled a list of them and promised to include in it all the enterprises that would announce their withdrawal from the Russian market for a while or permanently.

Oleg Pavlov previously explained what is proposed to be done: to arrest accounts and assets, introduce external management and nationalize enterprises. It is already known how this is supposed to be carried out. A message appeared on the telegram channel of United Russia about the imminent submission to the State Duma of a bill on the possibility of introducing external management by court in companies where more than 25% is owned by foreign citizens. It is possible to buy out a share or cancel external management after returning to the Russian market.

The head of the organization "Public Consumer Initiative" said that 59 companies have already been included in the list, including McDonald's, Ikea, Apple, Microsoft, etc. In the future, it is planned to involve Rospotrebnadzor, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and internal affairs bodies in the formation of this list.

These plans became known in the United States. White House press secretary Jen Psaki said that the US authorities will definitely respond to Russia's actions to confiscate the property of companies that have left the Russian market. She stressed that the US government welcomed the decisions of large companies to refuse to work in Russia, but did not put pressure on them.
