What will be included in the 9 package of restrictive measures: a ban on investment in mining and personal sanctions.
The European Union is developing the next, ninth package of sanctions against Russia. Its content has not yet been disclosed, but the leading international business newspaper Financial Times reports some details of the restrictive measures, citing informed sources. It is likely that the new sanctions will affect the mining sector of the Russian economy, three new banks and another 180 individuals.
With regard to mining, a ban on investment in this industry is planned, however, with exceptions for certain products. Potential exceptions to the total ban on new investment were reported to the Financial Times by three people with knowledge of the situation, the paper said.
In addition, the next package of restrictive measures from the EU will also include the following sanctions:
introduction of control over the export of civilian technologies used, in the opinion of the European Commission, for the needs of military and weapons enterprises;
a ban on operations with three Russian banks, while the Financial Times does not give specific names;
replenishment of the sanctions lists of individuals by another 180 points, the newspaper also does not name any names;
a ban on broadcasting for four more Russian TV channels that spread "propaganda" in favor of the Kremlin, according to Brussels;
introduction of control over the supply of dual-use products;
a ban on concluding agreements on marketing and other market research with Russian companies.
It is expected that the ninth package of sanctions will be actively discussed by the European Commission in the coming days, and may enter into force by the end of next week. In particular, the discussion of a specific list of measures will take place on December 12, Monday, at a meeting of the European Union Foreign Ministers.
French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna told reporters that EU representatives are considering various options for sanctions restrictions, including a ban on the supply of new technologies and technological products to Russia, a ban on the provision of banking services to Russian credit institutions. She also confirmed that additional large-scale personal sanctions will be discussed, not only against politicians and propagandists, but also against high-ranking officials from the military and economic spheres.
It is obvious that the list of sanctions in the final decision can seriously change. Earlier, various sources reported that a new package of sanctions would be adopted fairly quickly and would include about 180 points.
